CIS of South King County, in collaboration with Federal Way Parks and Recreation, kicked off its Teen Adventures Summer series!

Teen Adventures promotes access to opportunities that many youth in the community are unable to experience due to various barriers. It supports the youth’s physical health and also their mental health. The increase in physical activity and movement encourages students to choose healthy habits. Teen Adventures offers many benefits to students outside of the opportunities to explore new places. It supports youth in developing valuable life skills, such as leadership, teamwork, forward thinking, and problem-solving, by fostering a safe and non-judgmental space.

A FWPS student who attended last year’s adventures shared that “The trips were fun and it was nice to do new things without feeling pressured, but because I wanted to.” He shared his excitement at the possibility of the trips returning and an interest in what this summer’s trips had in store.

The physical and mental health problems youth face during the summer are oftentimes overlooked, because they aren’t in school with their consistent support teams. This is a pressing issue that demands immediate attention and action. Fortunately, the City of Federal Way has developed an innovative and effective solution to this problem. This program connects students with trusted adults and peers to tackle current physical needs and promote youth well-being. By supporting the Teen Adventures, we can continue to address this issue and make a real impact on our youth and within our community. CIS of South King County is proud to be a part of this very important summer program in Federal Way.
