On Sunday September 25th, our School Outreach Coordinator at Lakota Middle School, through a partnership with the Museum of Flight, took a group of 23 girls to the museum for First Time Flyers. At the event the girls got to have VIP access to the museum’s education labs where they learned how to perform a safety check on an airplane and how to design a flight plan. They then got to use the museum’s state of the art flight simulation technology to simulate flying a plane along the route that they designed. The day was crowned off by each of the girls being paired up with a volunteer pilot to have a 30 minute private flight experience! Some of the pilots even handed over the controls in mid-air so the girls could feel what it is really like to control a plane as it flies through the sky.
